Altariello Nainie Mistalondesse

(part of Samwise Gamgee's Letter)

by Ryszard Derdzinski

This is a poem in Quenya being a (poor) continuation of "Galadriel's Lament" in the LotR. I present it as a part of a letter from old Samwise Gamgee to King Aragorn.

Ai! telpie pendar nier rossenen,

Glossary:

pendar '[they] slant down' (found in French ATB)

coimassava 'of lembas' (not coimastava - we know that Tolkien rejected
the form masta in the LotR period. I can write that the form is reconstructed after Sindarin bass and Q massanie (see PM)

ettunkuva 'will draw out' - reconstructed after Q tukin 'I draw' (Ety
395) with preffix -et 'forth, out' and with nasalization of the stem in
Future (see quat-, quantuva)

mentuva 'will send' - menta- found in VT 41

mettave 'last, lately' after metta 'end'.
